Britney Spears was referred to as the “Princess of Pop'' coming of age in the spotlight. Spears was an icon of late 1990’s and early 2000’s music. Her first two albums ...Baby One More Time and Oops!...I Did It Again are among the best selling albums of all time. Her style became increasingly more provocative as she grew up and the next decade was fraught with highly publicized personal problems. The legal battle between her and her father over the conservatorship placed on her has now famously become known as the #FreeBritney movement. On November 12, 2021 the conservatorship was terminated following her personal testimony.
The painting is based on her famous red latex suit from the “Oops!...I Did It Again” music video and the pink and red color palette is meant to evoke the feminine, young energy that her music is known for.
